DBS process
All members of Stone Hockey Club who have regular interactions with our junior members will be required to undergo a DBS check, which will be arranged by Richard Lewis (Lead Safeguarding and Welfare Officer) on behalf of Stone Hockey Club.
Stone Hockey Club will be using the First Advantage Online Disclosure system for their DBS checks as advised by England Hockey.
As a general rule the following members / volunteers will require DBS clearance before starting their role within the club:
- All Club Coaches
- All Team Captains / Vice Captains
- All Regular Parent Volunteers
- All members of the Safeguarding and Welfare Team
- All Club Umpires
- Club Photographer
- Clubs webmaster
- Club Chairman
- Club Communications Officer
Welfare and Safeguarding Training
England Hockey have developed their own online safeguarding course and face to face courses to provide to ensure the relevant position holders within any hockey club have the relevant training. In line with the England Hockey recommendations the following positions will be required to provide evidence of attending the relevant courses before they are able for fill their roles:
- England Hockey’s Time to Listen:
- Welfare officer or sub committee members
- Head coach /Development Officer(s) (recommended where possible)
- UK Coaching Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop:
- Welfare Officer or sub committee members
- (If the Welfare officer has performed safeguarding training with a statutory agency; school, NHS or Police ect, within the last 3 years, they do not need to attend the safeguarding and Protecting children workshop before attending the EH Time to Listen course).
- England Hockey Online Safeguarding Course:
- Welfare officer or sub committee members
- All Club Coaches
- All Club Captains / managers
- All Club Umpires
- Head Coach / Development Officer(s)
- Regular Parent Volunteer
- Heads of Academy’s
Induction procedure
As part of the induction process Stone Hockey Clubs will provide the following positions in house training on safeguarding and welfare; which will be conducted by the Welfare officer or a member of the welfare sub committee. The following position holders are required to attend the training every 2 years or when new to the position.
- Any member of the Coaching Team
- All Team Captains / managers (excluding Veterans captain)
- Any volunteers who will have regular contact with any vulnerable adults or children under 16 years of age.
- Heads of Academy’s
- Welfare committee members
These sessions will run through the basics of Safeguarding and how to ensure we are maintaining and promoting good safeguarding practices, alongside encouraging the welfare of all our club members. As part of the In house training the following document will be distributed prior to the training so the attendees have time to read through the documents to encourage a free and open discussion about Safeguarding and welfare at the in house training session. After the training session a record of attendance will be kept in the clubs records.

As the following position holders will be responsible for handling and storing images of children under the age of 18 they will be required to have a current Stone Hockey Club DBS certificate as stated above.
